THE MYOPIA CLINIC GOLD COAST

Being short-sighted (or myopic) isn’t fun.  You rely on glasses or contact lenses for everything, everyday.  Glasses can look amazing, but having to wear them all the time gets frustrating.  You always need to think ahead and spontaneity comes with conditions: swimming isn’t an option with your glasses on or staying at friends becomes conditional about whether your contact lenses can be removed safely.  A constant frustration.

Fast forward to today, your child has now become short sighted.  But it seems different to when you became myopic.  Your child is younger than you were when you first got glasses.  Or maybe they have become short-sighted without anyone else in the family being myopic.  And their prescription keeps increasing very rapidly, with glasses getting stronger every 6-9 months.  If they are reliant on glasses at such a young age, how strong will their prescription get?  How thick will their glasses be?  And, most importantly, will this affect the health of their eyes in the future?

This is a common story we hear every day at the Myopia Clinic, the Gold Coast’s premiere optometry practice focussed intently on the reduction of the fast-emerging new epidemic of myopia.

At the Myopia Clinic Gold Coast, we aim to treat the cause of myopia, not just the symptoms.  Myopia is the abnormal elongation of the length of the eye, which creates blur in distance vision.  Giving glasses just treat the symptoms of blurred vision, it does not aim to prevent the future growth of the eye length.  Giving children stronger glasses every time their vision blurs is now thought to actually stimulate the growth of the eye and accelerate the increase of myopia.  At the Myopia Clinic, we use new technologies and evidence-based treatments to slow the growth of the eye and hence the myopia progression.  This practice is called Myopia Control and is the aim of every treatment we recommend in our clinic.

If you or your child is short sighted and you would like to slow the progression, please book an appointment with us at The Myopia Clinic Gold Coast.  Every treatment option is discussed and each recommendation is custom made for your child and their lifestyle.

At the Myopia Clinic, we treat the cause and progression of myopia, not just the symptoms

At the Myopia Clinic Gold Coast we provide treatments for the prevention and management of myopia (short-sightedness)
